About us

Who we are

The Hockey Museum is the first and only museum of hockey in the world and aims to preserve, share and celebrate the rich history and heritage of hockey. As an Accredited Museum and registered charity, The Hockey Museum is home to a growing collection of hockey archives, artefacts and memorabilia, which it makes accessible to the hockey family and the wider public through its website, newsletters, displays and exhibitions.

Our culture and values

Our Charitable Objects, as agreed with the Charity Commission and to which our Board of Trustees are bound are as follows:

“Advancing the education of the public in the history and development of hockey and its antecedents, in particular by establishing or maintaining a museum for the permanent exhibition and preservation of items of education and/or historic value.”

Our Vision: "Inspiring people to embrace hockey's values by sharing engaging stories through innovation and inclusivity."

OUR VALUES

For The Hockey Museum:  Origins | Evolution | Family | Inspire | Respect | Success
For Hockey:  Integrity | Solidarity | Inclusion | Courage | Respect

We will achieve our Vision Statement by:

  • Putting our audiences first.
  • Collecting, researching and preserving the hockey story.
  • Reaching out to players and non-players.
  • Being digital by default; and
  • Achieving sustainability through representative governance and resilient finances, underpinned by an ethos of training and skills development for all.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Our equality, diversity and inclusion Commitments:

1.  We will continue to state our commitment to EDI in our Mission, Vision and Strategic Goals and will maintain an EDI Committee to ensure that THM delivers an EDI Action Plan and reports progress against it to the Board of Trustees at every board meeting.

2.  We will ensure that we are inclusive and that our communications and activities represent the global hockey family who share protected characteristics, and diverse backgrounds and experiences. We commit to consulting with THM audiences to shape our plans and work together to create content.

3.  We will embed EDI into our culture, creating a safe and welcoming environment that is inclusive. Our culture will celebrate and represent the diverse society in which we live and work in, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging and can be themselves.

4.  We will seek to enable all visitors to The Hockey Museum in person and online, to have a positive experience that is welcoming and inclusive. This will involve looking at how we can break down barriers to enable this positive experience.

5.  We will promote trustee, job and volunteering roles to different community networks and platforms and adhere to recruitment best practices.
