About us
Who we are
The Edward Hain Centre is a new hub for health and wellbeing in St. Ives. We provide essential health services for the community, whether free at the point of service via the NHS and others, or private.
Starting with our first NHS Diabetic Eye Clinic in November, 2023, we now provide regular baby clinics, an NHS-run 'Pain Café,' private nurse nutrition sessions, and a number of community sessions and gatherings including a weekly 'Knit & Natter' group, a Youth Café, and monthly confidential welfare advice sessions.
We are also the home of the St. Ives Food bank, and hosted our first community meal together at the end of October.
Our culture and values
At the Edward Hain Centre (EHC) we believe that affordable and accessible health care is a necessity for everyone. With a holistic approach, we aim to provide traditional medical and clinical services as well as a wider choice of preventive care to enhance over-all health and wellbeing.
Our team consists of a manager, office administrator, volunteer co-ordinator, and board of trustees. We are supported by a growing number of dedicated volunteers who work at the Centre. We also have a dedicated and dynamic fundraising group, the Friends of the Edward Hain Centre, who are a separate charity.
We abide by a number of policies which cover all aspects of our work to ensure respectul co-operation between all.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
The Edward Hain Centre: Equality and Diversity Policy
The Edward Hain Centre recognises the equality and diversity of our community and is committed to providing equality of opportunity and a pro-active and inclusive approach to equality through all its activities. This commitment extends to staff, volunteers, members of the Board, members of the charity, members of the public and anyone involved in our activities.
No individual or organisation will be treated less favourably than another on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation. Furthermore, we value difference, and recognise the value that different backgrounds, skills, outlooks and experiences can bring to our activities.
The Edward Hain Centre will take active steps to promote good practice. In particular we will:
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Promote good relations between people of different racial groups, between women and men and between disabled and non-disabled people
- Have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or similar bases.
- Promote an inclusive culture and good practice in management, through the development of codes of best practice, policies, and training.
- Take positive action wherever possible to support this policy and its aims.
The organisation and its employees will meet all statutory obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant legislation and will not tolerate behaviour that contradicts this policy.
