About us
Who we are
The Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion (DLCC) is a nonpartisan and entirely secular initiative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. With a mission to advance society’s and individuals’ understanding of compassion and related values, the DLCC is an ethics research and education centre which has been working with some of the UK’s foremost thinkers since 2014, guided by the DLCC board of trustees.
Since 2017, the DLCC has concentrated on education in schools via its project Compassion Matters. We aim to build a society with compassion at its core, creating a future focussed on kindness. We do this by offering schools and other education organisations the opportunity to use our innovative learning resources.
Our resources equip children to think critically about ethical issues and put their learning into practice leading to a positive impact on the child, school and community. Focusing on the stories of inspiring individuals, our five-module course explores Compassion, Courage, Happiness, Wisdom and Justice. The modules allow teachers to benefit from a whole year of learning resources for primary and secondary school children. Each module includes an inspiring short documentary film, four/five lesson plans, worksheets and reading lists, and allows children to develop a deeper understanding and skills in areas such as attention, self-compassion, relationship skills, compassion for others, appreciating interdependence, community engagement, self-regulation and recognising common humanity.
