About us

Who we are

The Centre Place is a registered charity that was established in 1996, in response to the identified need for a local service focused on homelessness and housing needs for young people. Since then the services we have provided have expanded and developed to continue to meet local needs. We added a support service for young parents to the organisation in 2001, evening life skills sessions in 2002, Talkzone Counselling Service in 2004 and a LGBT+ Provision in W.O.W in 2010, which became LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire in 2016.All of our services have been developed in response to what children young people needed at that time.

Over the years we have supported thousands of disadvantaged vulnerable children, young people and families, making a positive life-changing impact for them and for the wider community.

In 2017, we commissioned an independent service evaluation to ensure that our work was focusing on the right areas and making as much impact as possible locally. The evaluation evidenced that, since we first opened the doors to our centre, there had been a large number of changes to different services and therefore the support was available throughout Worksop, Bassetlaw and the wider Nottinghamshire area. The evaluation evidenced that these changes had a positive impact in the area and increased some of the support services available for children and young people outside of our centre. The increase in local service support resulted in a reduced need for us to continue to offer some of the services that we have historically provided, focusing on housing, life skills and support for young parents.

The evaluation highlighted that there were still some huge gaps in local support for children and young people and this gave us a focus for our future work. We combined the outcome of the evaluation with our own internal monitoring and on-going consultations with partner organisations and found that there was a need for us to increase the development of our services focusing on LGBT+ and mental ill health support.Services We ProvideAs a result of these findings The Centre Place reduced the services identified as no longer in need and became the parent organisation for services delivered under LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire and Talkzone Counselling Service. These services where developed by The Centre Place and continue to be delivered, managed and monitored by the organisation.
