Who we are
The Bentham-Moxon Trust is a small charity that wishes to benefit the planet by supporting plant and fungal collection, research and education that further the work of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew). We manage investments of circa £7million, the income generated is used to award grants. The charity is based at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Grants provided by the Bentham Moxon Trust have enabled a wide range of botanical and mycological activities to be undertaken over many years and have helped to kick-start many small projects that have flourished into significant lines of research.
Over the last five years the Trust has enabled:
- 57 Kew scientists to present at 23 conferences
- 83 overseas botanists and mycologists from 61 countries to spend time at Kew undertaking collaborative research
- 6 overseas scientists to attend 2 weeks of Tropical Identification training at Kew
- 39 Kew Scientists to undertake 39 expeditions to 32 countries
- 22 Kew scientists to undertake research at 12 institutions in 17 countries
- 3 Kew collaborators to undertake research for field guides
- 3 long term projects to preserve wild flowers and encourage bees at Kew

Our culture and values
What do we want?
We want to see the growth of plant and fungal knowledge, and expertise, the sharing of this knowledge and expertise to help provide some of the solutions to the global challenges that are currently facing our planet.
How do we work?
We provide small grants to enable plant collection and field research expeditions; training and working opportunities for overseas botanists and mycologists; and presenting of globally important research at worldwide conferences.
To assist the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew we support the publication of the Flora Zambesiaca, the B.A. Krukoff Curator of African Botany to further research into the systematics of African Botany and the B.A. Krukoff Fellow to undertake the QMUL/Kew Plant and Fungal Taxonomy, Diversity and Conservation MSc.
The Marjorie Hurley Fund provides grants for the preservation and maintenance of wildflowers at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
