About us
Who we are
The AIRE Centre was established in 1993, and is a registered charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. The AIRE Centre’s mission is to promote awareness of European law rights and assist marginalised individuals and those in vulnerable circumstances to assert those rights. The AIRE Centre has two main activities: advice and litigation. The majority of our advice work is on behalf of migrants - usually European Economic Area (EEA) nationals and their families facing social exclusion. Many of the requests concern citizens of the newer EU Member States and most concern residence rights and benefits. In 2011 we provided legal services –written advice, representations to decision makers and advocacy in tribunals – in response to 813 requests, a fourfold increase from 2007. In addition, AIRE is litigating 30 cases before the European Court of Human Rights, mostly involving the rights of non-EEA nationals facing expulsion from the UK.
