Connecting Continents and Generations through Sulgrave’s Washington family stories
Sulgrave Manor is a house like no other in Britain or the United States. It was built in 1539 for Tudor wool merchant Lawrence Washington, five times great-grandfather of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
Original home of the Special Relationship, Sulgrave Manor Trust opened its doors to the public in 1921, in the presence of former US President Taft and members of the Royal Family.
The Trust's vision now focuses on the Manor's value as a tangible symbol of the friendship between the UK and the USA working to promote understanding, tolerance and co-operation between different peoples.
