About StopWatch
StopWatch is a coalition of academics, lawyers, activists, young people and community stakeholders that works to promote fair, effective and accountable policing. As the leading independent voice on stop-search in England and Wales since our formation in 2010, we have become instrumental in challenging the racially disproportionate effects of police misuse of the power, whilst also building resilience among individuals from marginalised and racialised communities often subjected to coercive policing. Evidence-based advocacy is central to our work, and we have established a strong reputation for providing reliable information, high quality research, and credible analysis, among statutory, legal, academic and community stakeholders.
We are run day-to-day by a small team of paid staff, in collaboration with a cast of volunteers with research, legal, and youth-led expertise. The team is overseen by a board of trustees who have expertise in various areas of criminal justice policy and legislation.
