About us
Who we are
At Step Together, we aim to improve opportunities for people facing social exclusion, specifically those with multiple complex needs. We prioritise those for whom other services have failed, are inadequate or simply aren’t available. We’re working in communities in Greater Manchester, London, Dorset, Bristol and Dumfries and Galloway to break down the problems and issues surrounding social exclusion. We support clients to be active and valued community members, by promoting volunteering and community engagement that helps them to build positive futures for themselves.
Our current projects have a specific focus on ex-offenders, vulnerable young people leaving the care system, and injured ex-service personnel, but our new strategy aims to broaden our work to include others who are marginalised or isolated and who could benefit enormously from our work.
We currently work with between 600-700 people a year across the UK, providing intensive coaching support to help them take up bespoke volunteering opportunities that enable them to improve their mental and physical wellbeing, integrate into local communities, develop positive social networks, engage in purposeful activity and address barriers to long-term employment. There is no other charity in the UK which operates a similar programme model to Step Together.
