About us

Who we are

At STAND (formerly Legs4Africa), we believe in creating a world where amputees can thrive with dignity, independence, and opportunity. Over the past decade, we’ve provided more than 20,000 prosthetic legs to people across Africa and built vital partnerships with clinics, hospitals, and prosthetists who share our vision. By combining direct support with a long-term, sustainable approach, we empower individuals and communities, offering not just limbs but also holistic rehabilitation, counselling, and peer support.

Our work doesn’t stop at delivering prosthetics – we’re here to strengthen local expertise and drive lasting change. We support training initiatives and fund innovative projects that nurture local ownership, aiming to build a self-sustaining prosthetics industry in Africa. From advancements in prosthetic technology to developing community networks, STAND collaborates with ministries, healthcare providers, and industry leaders to ensure our impact is both deep and far-reaching.

Our team is passionate, ambitious, and committed to breaking down barriers for amputees, creating access to life-changing resources and reducing dependency on external aid. Whether working directly with individuals in need or supporting prosthetic clinics through training and resources, we’re here to stand by amputees in their journey to independence.

Mission

To enable amputees to live independently by ensuring access to prosthetic legs and holistic rehabilitation

The charity’s three main aims

  1. Improve access to prosthetic legs because everyone should have the opportunity to walk, work and dance again, with the appropriate technology at an affordable price.

  2. Improve services because everyone should have access to good quality facilities, training opportunities and comfortable care.

  3. Improve the well-being of people with limb differences because everyone should have access to the emotional support they need to get back on their feet
