About us
Who we are
Established in 1999, Southend Carers is a local charity providing information, advice, training and other support services to family carers looking after someone who lives in Southend-on-Sea.
Anyone can become a carer at any time in their life. Every day in the UK 6,000 people take on a caring responsibility. 3 in 5 people will be carers at some point in their lives.
There are almost 18,000 unpaid carers within Southend, and we offer a wide range of services to allow all carers to have a life outside of caring and/or their lives supported as a carers.
We and our partners offer practical advice & information; shortbreak respite; emotional & wellbeing support; social activities, as well as opportunities to meet with other local carers.
“A Carer is a person of any age, adult or child, who provides unpaid support to a partner, child, relative, or friend who couldn’t manage to live independently or whose health or well-being would deteriorate without this help. This could be due to frailty, disability or serious health condition.”

We’re determined to improve the lives of carers, and our mission is to make a positive difference to their lives, encourage a wider recognition of their caring role; enable them to fulfil their own needs as individuals and offer them innovative support solutions.
