About us
Who we are
Who we are and what do we do?
South West Airfields Heritage Trust or (SWAHT) for short, is non-profit making educational charitable trust founded in 2003, whose objective is to educate the public about World War 2 Aviation in the South West of England.
We do this by collecting, preserving, documenting and displaying photographs, films, models and artefacts - as well as encouraging the preservation of the region’s airfield archaeology for future generations.
We also honour those who served at them, so that their contribution to the freedom we enjoy today is not forgotten.
We do this in a number of ways
Firstly we have set up two dedicated Heritage Centres. Secondly we give educational talks on a number of war time airfields, Exeter, Culmhead, Upottery, and Dunkeswell. Thirdly we have our own Website that is intended to form a research resource for those who are interested in the history of these establishments.
The talks we give are often accompanied by an illustrated PowerPoint presentation and can be undertaken either at one of our heritage centres or alternatively at an organisation’s chosen venue. Talks can be tailored in length and/or emphasis, to focus on a particular aspect of the subject.
Finally we also provide pre-arranged airfield tours at Upottery, Culmhead, and Dunkeswell, where members of the public can see the archeology and remains of the airfields.
