About us
Who we are
SolarAid’s mission is to light up every home, school and clinic in Africa by 2030, using safe, clean, solar power. For the 590 million people living in sub-Saharan Africa, the day draws to a halt when the sun sets. Without electricity, families have to rely on dangerous, polluting and expensive forms of lighting such as candles and kerosene lamps.
SolarAid is playing an important role helping to create vibrant and sustainable solar markets across Africa through our social enterprise, SunnyMoney. We’ve distributed over 2.3 million solar lights, directly impacting over 12.4 million people across Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Senegal. This means families across the continent will have safe, renewable solar lights that extend the working day, help kids study to achieve their potential and bring communities together.
