About us
Who we are
Social Engine is a transformation agency founded in 2015. We specialise in the application of behavioural insights - this allows us to get 'under the skin' of societal challenges and work with clients and communities to create social impact. We unpick challenges, uncover evidence and develop solutions.
We work with local authorities, housing associations, unions and other social purpose organisations to overcome organisational challenges through engagement, research and the practical application of evidence into practice. We have been at the forefront of the application of behavioural insights in local government, conducting some of the first trials with councils and training officers across the country in the benefits of adopting a behaviourally-informed approach to service design, delivery and evaluation. Our work has won us awards and recognition across a range of sectors.
Our fresh, no-nonsense approach is underpinned by research and evidence of what works. Our aim is to create sustainable change and improve practice by empowering individuals and organisations. As a team we bring intellectual rigour and emotional intelligence, ensuring that our work is sensitive to our clients’ needs and those of their stakeholders. In all our projects, our personalised approach is designed to support our clients at every stage, combining a tailored response to the brief with high levels of customer service.
It's evidence driven - and it's fun. We work on all sorts of challenges - from tackling prostitution, to disrupting litterbugs, challenging violence against women through to understanding the needs of tenants in social housing. It's never dull.
Our culture and values
We're a collaborative, creative and committed team.
We do good work and we're kind.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We boast a positive commitment and celebratory approach to equality and diversity. This applies to our client work and in relation to our own organisation. We are committed to recognising diversity, eliminating discrimination and removing the barriers that deny equality of opportunity. Whether that is in relation to age, disability, gender, marital or civil partnership status, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity / paternity, race, religion, sexuality and other characteristics.
We recognise that institutionalised and structural racism is an ever present threat in organisations and behaviours. Social Engine is an anti-racist organisation. This means that we take steps to challenge racism wherever we encounter it. In addition, we are alert to how racism may be experienced by our clients and communities, listening to the views and experiences of people we work with in order to understand more about how our work can support anti-racist practices.
Day to day, we treat each other, our clients and the communities we serve with respect and fairness - challenging situations where standards fall below this. Reflecting wider society, our team includes people of differing gender, ethnicity, faith and sexuality.
Our engagement experience and expertise places significant emphasis on being inclusive and ensuring there are appropriate opportunities for engagement targeted at particular groups and communities. We also build monitoring into our work to ensure that we can ensure that our approach, as well as interventions we develop, reflects the communities we serve.
