About us
Who we are
Social Action for Health is an east London community-based health charity providing services and support to people most affected by health inequalities. We work with communities to achieve social justice, equality, and better health and wellbeing for local people.
Poverty, discrimination, prejudice, and inaccessible systems across society currently lead to an unequal distribution of good health. We empower those most affected by health inequalities to meet their immediate priorities, while supporting the case for wider structural and societal change.
We have a portfolio of projects at any one time, currently including peer-support and befriending programmes, working with parents and people with long-term health conditions, advice services, a weight management project, and a community research project. All of our services are delivered in an accessible and culturally appropriate way, often in community languages and facilitated by experts-by-experience from the local community.

How we work
We believe the more control people have over their lives, the better their health and wellbeing.
Our way of working is to build capacity in people and communities – particularly those most affected by health inequalities. We are expert at engaging communities and then facilitating ways that people can develop their own solutions, sharing their expertise and seeing the world and opportunities in a different way.
We all have strengths to give to create a healthier world, at Social Action for Health we bring people together to empower and support each other. We believe in leading by example.
Where we work
We are based in Tower Hamlets but operate across East London supporting local people to lead in their communities and engage and facilitate in community languages.
