About us
Who we are
We are a small, independent registered Scottish Charity, who have been running since 2005. We are supported by volunteers, a co-ordinator and driven by the belief that everyone can be enabled to navigate their way around technology, even at today’s fast pace.
We aim to meet the needs of our users by giving them the opportunity to learn basic computing skills, to explore new equipment and to take advantage of a whole new world of communication and information.
Our drop in sessions are held at various locations in Aberdeen and on a weekly basis-
Mondays: Michie’s Café, 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Wednesdays: Crown Tce Methodist Church, 2:15pm to 4:00pm
Thursdays: Cummings Park Community Flat, 11:00am to 1:00pm
Thursdays: Tillydrone Community Campus, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Saturdays: Central Library Media Centre, 10:00am to 12:00pm
Our culture and values
We provide a friendly and supportive place where learners will meet our patient, experienced tutors in one-to-one sessions. Our tutors are volunteers who offer their time and enjoy the difference they can make to the lives of those in the community who need our support....helping helps all! The Silver City Surfers would not exist without our dedicated volunteers.
We also provide hospitality - tea, coffee, biscuits and a blether are just as important as learning about new tech.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Silver City Surfers aim to create an environment that respects the diversity of the community and enables individuals and organisations to achieve their full potential, to contribute fully, and to derive maximum benefit and enjoyment from their involvement in Silver City Surfers.
Silver City Surfers acknowledges the following basic rights for all:
-
to be treated with respect and dignity
-
to be treated fairly with regard to all procedures and choices
-
to receive encouragement to reach their full potential
Silver City Surfers is committed to providing services which are relevant and accessible to all those who might wish to use them. And for our services to be welcoming and accessible to all potential participants.
We welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering to get in touch.
