Who we are

Shine is the only national charity dedicated to supporting people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Today, the charity has a membership of just over 11,000 consisting of people with these physical and learning disabilities, their families, and the professionals involved in their care. Shine focuses upon improving members’ health and social wellbeing, and raising awareness of the challenges created by Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. It does this through: nationwide support services, health and education information and advice, and a national programme of learning and social events. In recent years, the charity has also established age-specific peer support groups for young children, teenagers, and adults aged 40 plus with the disabilities. 

Shine's vision is of a society that meets the needs, values the contribution and celebrates the lives of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus
