About us
Who we are
We provide free, confidential and independent legal advice on housing and related problems
We have moved our guidance and advice services to online, over the telephone and face to face appointments only when necessary and by prior arrangement. Although we are now running a drop-in service again on Mondays (10am – 12pm) and Thursdays (10am – 12pm).
Our priority remains the people we support, and we are striving to limit the impact on our services.
You can access our support, guidance, and expert advice services via our get help pages online including our wed-chat facility. We also offer face-to-face services via our drop-in or in person/by phone for legal cases only by calling our legal appointment line on 0344 515 1880
Advice and guidance
We are asking people to use our extensive online resources at england.shelter.org.uk/get_help in the first instance, but we know this won’t work for some people.

Our culture and values
A home is a fundamental human need, as vital as education or healthcare. But in Britain today, that right is denied to millions of people whose lives are blighted by homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction.
The time for change is now. Together with individuals, in communities and across society, we will lead the way for a safe home for all. But we need your help to do it.
We’re looking for passionate and dedicated people with expert knowledge, experience, and talent to help us achieve our vision of a safe, secure and affordable home for everyone.
We offer a huge range of roles throughout our organisation and across the UK, so whatever you do, wherever you are, you can join us. Be the change you want to see in society.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At Shelter, we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help, and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside of Shelter, and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
