Who we are

SHAK is an Alnwick based dog rescue charity dealing with dogs which would likely be put down if they didn't come to us. We are a small organisation with a very strong local support group and about 50 active volunteers who help us in our existing charity shop in Blyth and with the huge task of walking our 50+ dogs twice a day and cleaning kennels.

It is immensely rewarding to work with dogs who arrive scared and often aggressive and to see them slowly relax as they experience an unthreatening environment, regular food and kindness. Eventually they develop into relatively normal dogs and many will then be rehomed with suitably experienced families and become well-loved pets.
