About us
Who we are
About Second Step
Second Step's aim is to deliver recovery and well-being opportunities for people with mental health and other support needs to achieve their hopes and ambitions. Second Step has ‘Investing in Volunteers’ quality standard accreditation, with an emphasis on volunteer development and progression.
Volunteer With Us
Volunteers are highly valued at Second Step. Without them, some of our most important and effective services would not be able to operate. Whether you are looking to give something back as a Volunteer Mentor, gain experience in our Communications team, or learn skills supporting courses in our Wellbeing College, we have roles to suit you.
Training and support
We train all our volunteers before they start so you don’t need to have any experience to volunteer with us. We just ask that you have empathy and be open to learning new things. Our volunteers receive 1-2-1 and group supervision frequently, plus a six-month review to make sure they are getting the experience they want.
Lived experience? Try Peer mentoring
People who have had their own experience of homelessness, mental ill health, drug and/or alcohol dependency have a lot to offer. If you feel you are now in a place to be able to support others, talk to us about becoming a Peer Mentor
