About us
Who we are
The Yard is a leading Scottish charity working with children and young people aged 0-25 with
additional support needs, and their families, through adventure play sessions in Edinburgh, Dundee, Kirkcaldy - and now Glasgow!
We offer creative and inclusive play experiences in a well-supported environment, alongside
wraparound support for the whole family. We provide a varied programme including youth clubs,
respite, early years, schools and family play sessions. We believe in fostering communities of
friendship and peer support without judgement.
Our culture and values
What we do:
Play isn’t just fun, it’s essential for a child’s overall health, well-being, and happiness. At The Yard, we witness the transformative power of play every day. In our centres, disabled children and young people can explore, build confidence, and forge long-lasting friendships through our inclusive play sessions.
Our services extend far beyond the playroom. We offer outreach programmes, respite care, and family support designed to empower children and allow families to thrive.
Our mission is to build thriving communities of support where every family feels valued, included, and connected.
Our values:
We are passionate about inspiring confidence and capability. We are brilliant at creating fun, fostering friendships and providing a place to play and belong.
- Adventurous and inspiring: Taking creative approaches that allow risk taking and new experiences.
- Deeply respectful and kind: Knowledge and lived experience bringing next level understanding and active acceptance.
- Connection and community: Being somewhere that feels like your own, where you can connect with people and spaces.
Our Strategy:
Over the next 5 years, we will extend our reach whilst always providing a trusted, high-quality personalised service to our children and families. We aim to meet the needs of more disabled children and their families and increasingly focus upon early intervention to prevent crisis.
