About us
Who we are
Safety Net (UK) supports the recovery of those affected by rape, exploitation, sexual and domestic abuse, across North and West Cumbria. Over the last five years, referrals have increased by over 100%. In 2019 - 2020, 64% (567) of clients were adults and 36% (319) CYP., with 50% being from the West of Cumbria. There has been a significant number of Children and Young People accessing services, this is primarily a result of our very successful schools project run in the West.
Our core service takes a whole family, person-centred and trauma-informed approach, providing:
• Tier 1: short term interventions/information/advice/advocacy/helpline/one-off drop-in sessions/advice around court procedures/family court/pre-trial/multi-agency support, arranging early help/signposting (0-3 sessions.)
• Tier 2: integrated support that provides short-term safety and stabilisation work to CYP/adults who have significant emotional and practical needs that make accessing therapeutic recovery support services difficult or impossible. (12 -1 hour sessions.)
• Tier 3: trauma-focussed counselling/therapeutic support and group work for adults/CYP and families. The duration of this support is adjusted according to client’s needs. (20-25 sessions.)
• Tier 4: recovery community to support integration back into the community/building social networks/relationships, we run a men's/women's group and a volunteer programme.
