About us
Who we are
SafeHands for Mothers is an international charity, founded in 2003, dedicated to reducing maternal and infant mortality. SafeHands’ focus is on producing high quality films and visual materials to support government and non-governmental training and advocacy programmes in developing countries. The films also support national efforts to create community awareness on making pregnancy safer and drawing attention to stigmatized topics such as Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage and Obstetric Fistula. The charity has carved out a niche by using its own innovative portable solar-powered DVD players to take the training and awareness creation to where it is most needed –remote and isolated villages. SafeHands should be recognized for this novel best practice, especially within countries like Ethiopia where access and affordable basic health care are often not available.
