About us
Who we are
Welcome to RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter, where compassion meets commitment in caring for animals in need. Established over 30 years ago, we’ve dedicated ourselves to rehoming, rehabilitating, and reuniting animals, becoming a beacon of hope for countless furry friends in Devon and beyond.
As a registered charity (Charity No. 205154), we operate independently, receiving no government funding and less than 5% support from the National RSPCA Society. This autonomy allows us to tailor our services to the specific needs of our community and the animals we serve.
We’re an independent RSPCA branch dedicated to helping Devon’s animals in need. Being almost entirely self-funded means we rely on generosity and support from our local communities to exist. We take in, care for and rehome dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, birds and ferrets.
Located on the picturesque outskirts of Exeter in Devon, our shelter spans 21 acres of scenic land nestled in a beautiful Devon Valley, complete with a tranquil stream meandering through its grounds. Here, we provide a safe haven for animals, offering them a second chance at happiness.
Our culture and values
At Little Valley, we envision a world where every animal is treated with compassion and respect. We are committed to ensuring that every animal in our care finds a happy forever home, no matter how long it takes to find the perfect match.
As an independently funded charity affiliated with the National RSPCA, we uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and governance. We rely on the incredible generosity of the Devon community to support our vital work, as we receive minimal central RSPCA or government funding.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
The Society is dedicated to ensuring equality of opportunity and fostering a diverse workforce. This policy, while non-contractual, emphasises the elimination of unlawful discrimination and the importance of diversity in enhancing organizational effectiveness and public image. Supported by the Society’s Directors and agreed with Unite, the recognized trade union, this policy applies to all employees and others at work, including trustees, volunteers, and contractors.
The policy outlines that no employee or job applicant should face less favourable treatment due to protected characteristics such as age, disability, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy, and more. It mandates equal opportunities for development based on merit, a respectful and harassment-free work environment, and accountability for managers in fair treatment of colleagues. Training in equality and diversity issues is required for managers, and all employment practices must be free from unlawful discrimination. This policy will be communicated, monitored, and reviewed regularly to ensure effectiveness. Additional resources and guidance are available on the Society's SPARC platform.
