About us
Who we are
RSPCA Derby & District is an independent animal rescue charity based on Abbey Street in Derby City centre. While we are licenced by the National RSPCA, we are actually a separate, self-funded charity. We support the work of the National RSPCA, but we are responsible for raising all our own funds. We rely on on income from our six charity shops, direct donations and corporate sponsorship to raise the £12,000 per week it costs us to run our animal centre and help animals in need in our area. We take in neglected, abandoned, injured and unwanted animals (dogs, cats, rabbits and small furries) from across Derbyshire, provide them with care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation, and then find them loving forever homes. In doing this we also support people in our local community who can no longer care for their pets, and we help adopters find the right new addition to their family.
Alongside our work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need, we also raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and the importance of being kind and compassionate to animals. We give talks to schools, businesses, and groups, and share information freely through our social media channels and website. Despite being a small, inner-city rescue centre, we take in around hundreds of animals every year, and we always have a long waiting list of animals that need our help.
We are a small, dedicated team, passionate about animal welfare and making a difference!
