About us
Who we are
Roots is a small grassroots NGO that provides sustainable, environmentally conscious services to displaced people living in Grande-Synthe, northern France. The organisation was founded in 2017 to support displaced people following the demolition of 'The Jungle', a large camp in Calais, in 2016. Our main activities involve the provision of basic services such as drinking water, showers, waste management, and operating a social hub in camp where people on the move have access to Wi-Fi and electricity.
Our culture and values
At our grassroots NGO, we are driven by a deep commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community empowerment. Operating in the heart of Northern France, we provide vital services in water management, digital connectivity, and recycling to refugee camps. Our approach is rooted in sustainable practices, such as using biogas for our generators. We are also reviving our pioneering initiative of distributing electronic devices crafted from upcycled e-waste, ensuring that technology and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Our values of resilience, ingenuity, and solidarity guide every aspect of our work as we strive to create lasting positive impact in the communities we serve. Join us, and be part of a team dedicated to making a tangible difference through sustainable solutions and innovative thinking.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At Roots, we champion equality, diversity, and inclusion. We use an anonymous recruitment process to remove names and email addresses from the first stage of applications, ensuring a fair evaluation based solely on your skills and experience. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from those with lived experience of displacement and resettlement. Join us and help make a difference!
