About us

Who we are

The Refugee Welfare Association Cameroon  (REWAC) is an indigenous , non-profit organization registered under Cameroon law in March 2009. It has as a mandate the promotion, protection and the enforcement of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and IDPs as enshrined in International Conventions to which Cameroon is a Signatory. According to the UNHCR, Cameroon is host to over 600,000 refugees and asylum seekers from 26 countries as at March 31, 2018 plus internally displaced persons(IDPs), the latter due to the ongoing conflict in the two Anglophone countries. It is our believe that the challenge in realizingtheir rights can not therefore be left in the hands of the Cameroon government alone , or the UN Refugee Agency. Indigenous initiatives like REWAC are indispensable to complements efforts made by international development partners to address the challenges posed by these group of vulnerable persons. It is our desire to raise the necessary funds to sustain an effective and efficient level of operations for our activities. These activitiies include but not limited to: the provision of pro-bono legal aid to refugees passing through the status determination (RSD)process, psycho-social support, supplentary food assistance, an education Fund for refugee children, and improved health as well as economic epowerment projects for refugees, asylum seekers and IDPs.
