What we do
Based in Central Reading, Reading Community Learning Centre (RCLC) a local charity has more than 25 years of experience in delivering services to support traditionally ‘hard-to-reach’ refugee and migrant women. It champions equality and women’s rights, empowering marginalised ethnic minority and refugee women to be skilled, confident and active citizens by:
• addressing barriers to learning, integration, wellbeing and employment;
• providing tailored one-to-one holistic support and advocacy;
• fostering mutual respect, support, and community co-operation.
Many of the women we support speak little or no English, have limited experience outside the home, so are often amongst the most isolated and vulnerable members of our communities. We offer a programme of outreach activities, free, safe women-only first-step educational opportunities and language classes; workshops, 1:1 information, advice and support. This is supported by an Ofsted registered crèche and social opportunities.
Some accounts from our learners are available on our website here.
