About us
Who we are
Rape Crisis England & Wales (RCEW) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and the national umbrella body for 39 independent member Rape Crisis Centres, which provide specialist services to women and girl survivors of child sexual abuse, rape and all forms of sexual violence in England and Wales. While each Rape Crisis Centre is autonomous and separately funded, RCEW supports their sustainability and strengthens their capacity to work with women and girls after the trauma of rape and sexual violence.
Every year RCEW member Centres provide specialist support to tens of thousands of women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. This specialist work includes a range of support such as:
- Advocacy
- Helplines
- Face-to-face emotional support/counselling
- Group work
- Preventative work
- Services for specific groups of survivors e.g. young women and girls and black and minority ethnic (BME) women
As a leading voice on sexual violence, RCEW raises the profile of these specialist services, the need and demand for them, and of violence against women and girls and its impacts, in order to challenge and change public attitudes. We provide support to our members through the development of bespoke resources such as the Rape Crisis National Service Standards, specialist accredited training programmes, and toolkits to support monitoring and evaluation, fundraising and equality and diversity.
