About us
Who we are
Petersfield Museum looks to tell the story of Petersfield and the surrounding areas through a wonderfully diverse mix of archaeology, art, historic dress, literature, photography, poetry and social history.
In 1999, The Petersfield Area Historical Society opened the doors to Petersfield Museum in the magistrates’ courthouse behind the Petersfield police station, run solely by passionate and knowledgeable volunteers. What’s followed has been a wonderful tale of transformation as the Museum was able to acquire the police station in 2016, obtain support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and embark on an expansive redevelopment project, entitled ‘Pathways into the Past’, which has turned what was a small, volunteer-led operation into a modern museum which can share the history of this historic market town through a fantastic range of temporary exhibitions, engaging displays and delightful events.
The Museum is not just a place to learn and take in local history, it is also a host to a wide range of events, including:
- Live music
- Film screenings
- Toddler Takeover days
- Outdoor and indoor theatre
- Talks
Our Courtyard Café offers a tempting range of delicious cakes and smooth coffee while the Shop at Petersfield Museum has a great range of local history books, greeting cards, children's presents and an exclusive range of locally themed gifts.
