About us
Who we are
PEACH is a successful community organisation run by residents in Custom House, Newham. We now have hundreds of members and use Community Organising to make positive changes in our area.
PEACH, stands for The People's Empowerment Alliance for Custom House and we exist to support each other and to build our strength as a community so that we can have a say over the decisions which affect us.
At our Founding Assembly in 2013, the community voted on 4 key areas to work on:
1- Jobs and Education
2- Housing and Regeneration
3- Safety
4- Health
In the last 5 years PEACH have had some major successes including:
- Winning investment of £1.2 million to fix mould and damp issues on Hoskins Close Estate.
- Establishing Custom House Workers Co-operative, providing steady, living wage work to local people.
- Shopkeepers of Freemasons Road organised and won a ‘Shopkeepers Charter’ to secure their rights under regeneration.
- Producing the Alternative Regeneration Plan, a viable regeneration plan for the area produced by the community and establishing the E16 Community Land Trust to further this work.
- Working with the family and friends of Bobby Litambola who was sadly murdered in Custom House along with other young people locally the community established 9 City Safe Havens in the area where people can seek sanctuary in places such as local shops.
- The campaign and actions of the Mears Cats (formerly the TANDO Tigers) have won hundreds of thousands of pounds of investment reached national media on multiple occasions.
