About us
Who we are
Join Orchid Project, a UK-registered charity with a global reach, in our mission to foster and accelerate the abandonment of female genital cutting (FGC) worldwide. At Orchid Project, we envision a world free from the harmful practice of FGC, where the rights and well-being of women and girls are upheld.
Female genital cutting (FGC) is a deeply concerning issue affecting millions of girls and women globally. According to recent statistics, at least 3.9 million girls are at risk of being cut each year, with over 200 million women currently living with the devastating impacts of FGC. Shockingly, in half the countries where FGC is practised, the majority of girls undergo the procedure before the age of 5. FGC not only contravenes human, health, child, and women's rights, but it also serves no medical purpose and is not required by any religion. The practice can lead to severe negative physical and psychological consequences.
As part of the Orchid Project, you will play a vital role in advocating for increased global resourcing and prioritization of efforts to combat FGC. By working with partners and stakeholders, you will support the development and implementation of sustainable strategies to end FGC in practising countries.
Your strong commitment to human rights, gender equality, and social justice will guide your work as you raise awareness about the importance and urgency of ending FGC. You will contribute to shifting social norms and fostering dialogue around this critical issue through strategic messaging, public engagement, and collaboration with governments and communities.
We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge of female genital cutting and its implications. Your experience in advocacy and campaigning at national or international levels will be invaluable in driving change and mobilizing support. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and writing for different audiences, will enable you to effectively convey the urgency and impact of ending FGC.
Join us at Orchid Project and become part of a dedicated team working towards a world free from FGC. Your contributions will have a lasting impact on millions of women and girls affected by this harmful practice.
