About us
Who we are
OCD Action is the leading national charity for people affected by the debilitating condition Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We run crucial services to support people with OCD in the UK, to reduce their isolation and to help them to access the treatment they need.
OCD can be a destructive and isolating mental health condition, but it is treatable. We have a vision of a time when OCD is well understood and everyone gets the treatment and the support they need, when they need it. With the OCD community, we are fighting for this. OCD Action provides people affected by OCD with the help, support and information they need to better manage their condition and take positive steps towards treatment at the earliest possible point.
About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a severe and debilitating mental health condition that affects around 1-2% of the population, regardless of age, ethnicity and social background. Studies have shown OCD to be the fourth most common psychiatric disorder (after substance abuse, specific phobias, and major depression), and The World Health Organisation once ranked it among the world’s 10 most disabling illnesses in terms of loss of income and quality of life. OCD is a treatable condition yet all too often people do not receive the help they need, leading to an average 12 year waiting time between the initial onset of symptoms and treatment being received
