Who we are

Nottingham Bikeworks is a not-for-profit, social enterprise working from well equipped premises in inner city Nottingham. Since opening nearly four years ago our enterprise has grown rapidly and we are developing in several exciting new directions. 

We think bikes are brilliant and we work to encourage and support more people to cycle more often. We recycle unwanted bikes and offer them for resale and teach people how to fix their own bikes through a programme of classes, accredited courses and open workshops. We also believe bikes and cycling are fantastic tools for education, enablement and engagement and run an expanding range of innovative projects across the community, focusing especially on disadvantaged groups including young people who are struggling to access mainstream education. 

Our primary aims are to:

• encourage and support more people to use bikes as regular, everyday transport
• reduce waste by returning unwanted bikes back into the community
• utilize bikes and cycling as tools for education, enablement and engagement
• and improve community cohesion particularly for disadvantaged groups

Delivering community projects and services to achieve our aims 

We deliver a range of community projects and provide various services to achieve our aims:

• A fully inclusive workshop environment with expert, accessible supervision
• Saving functional bicycles and reusable parts from recycling and landfill and offer them for resale and reuse at reasonable prices
• Encouraging self-reliance and skill sharing via bike maintenance and workshop sessions 
• Delivering a wide range of projects and training opportunities for individuals, groups and organizations, with a particular focus on those experiencing disadvantage
• Offering educational alternatives for 11-17 year olds who are not accessing mainstream education
• Keeping bikes on the road by carrying out repairs at the workshop and in the community 
• Acting as a community focus for bike-related activities 
• Provide cycle traning for groups and individuals
