About us
Who we are
We are a community-based charity working in the Ward End and Alum Rock areas of Birmingham, communities with disproportionate levels of environmental, social and economic deprivation.
Our inclusive, responsive services have developed and changed over the last 50 years to support women and children in our communities, focusing on Health, Social and Economic outcomes.
We act as an anchor within what are often considered ‘hard to reach’ communities, to create bottom up change by developing projects that respond to local needs. We do this by working collaboratively with a range of partners such as local schools, local authority bodies, third sector organisations, education services, social services and more.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Norton Hall is an inclusive organisation where we focus on the well-being and progress of every individual and where all members are of equal worth.
We believe that the Equality Act (2010) provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups. The Act was introduced to ensure protection from discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of specific characteristics, referred to as the ‘9 protected characteristics’.
We are committed to ensuring that these characteristics are protected from direct or indirect forms of discrimination, victimisation and harassment.
Our policy is founded upon promoting equal access and choice for all children, families and staff. Its provisions inform other of our Polices including: Dignity at work Policy; Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy; Behaviour Management Policy; and our Recruitment and Selection Policy.
It covers how we engage beneficiaries in our work and advertise it (Admissions); how we recruit and train staff and volunteers; the learning environment and curriculum that we offer; how we value diversity in families; the food that we offer and the festivals that we respect; and our staff team’s responsibilities for upholding the policy.
Both of our centres are fully accessible to people of differing physical abilities. We employ community language speakers in our staff and offer translation support as standard to those who need it.
