About us
Who we are
NWIU is a vibrant community dedicated to bringing together Nigerian women living and studying in the UK. By forming strong bonds and creating a supportive network, the group aims to help members integrate and contribute meaningfully to their new environment. At its core, NWIU is about fostering a sense of belonging and providing a go-to haven for those of similar backgrounds.
Our culture and values
NWIU engages in a variety of activities designed to enhance the lives of its members:
Support and Networking
-
Career Support: Many members have found job opportunities and career guidance through the group. For example, one member secured a part-time job after connecting with another member who shared an offer.
-
Community Events: Regular meetups, workshops, and retreats provide opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. The annual retreats are particularly popular, bringing together around 50 women for meaningful interactions and relaxation.
Learning and Sharing
-
Information Exchange: The group serves as an encyclopaedia of knowledge, offering advice on everything from navigating life in the UK to academic excellence, parenting, and safeguarding.
-
Workshops: NWIU organises training sessions, such as NHS job application workshops, which have helped many members gain valuable insights and succeed in their careers.
Empowerment and Integration
-
Mentorship: Members benefit from mentorship on various topics, including career development, lifestyle, and workplace interactions.
-
Cultural Pride: The group promotes cultural exchange and integration, helping members maintain their Nigerian heritage while adapting to life in the UK.
