Who we are
Newbridge Memo is important to everyone who lives and works in Newbridge and the surrounding districts. Its history speaks for itself; it is a memorial to the men of Newbridge who gave their lives in WW1, and is a place of huge significance to the miners and their families even now long after the last colliery was closed. It was a place renowned throughout the valleys as “The Place to Go” for a good night out.
Thecurrent small team of employees and volunteers are determined to do everything they can to re-establish Newbridge Memo as a venue that everyone is talking about and where everyone wants to go. To this end they have set the following Key Objectives;

- To be self sustaining by September 2019
- To provide a positive, safe and secure working environment
- To provide employment and training opportunities to local people
- Respect and Promote the Heritage and Culture of Newbridge Memo
- Re-establish Newbridge Memo’s reputatiom.
The Miner’s Institute was established in 1908 for the “Education and Intellectual Health” of the miners and the Memorial Hall was built in memory of those who died in WW1 and opened in 1928. “Newbridge Memo Celynen Collieries Institute and Memorial Hall” was set up in 2014 as a charity with the following Mission Statement and objectives.

By investing in the heritage of the past, the team aim to bring benefit to the future by creating a project that will provide access for all, and enrich the cultural and educational experience of the people of Newbridge and surrounding area.
Objectives
- To preserve and protect the historic heritage and architecture of the Institute & Memorial Hall and ensure that they are maintained and restored to the highest conservation standards for the benefit of the people of Newbridge and Wales.
- To promote the understanding of the social heritage and memorial aspects of the Institute & Memorial Hall.
- To remove barriers to learning by expanding access to learning resources and information technology.
- To create a strong, sustainable social enterprise which is customer focused and will provide jobs and economic benefit for the area.
- To enrich the community by expanding access and opportunity to creative experience and through the promotion of the arts and cultural activities.
- To promote & develop the recreational and health and wellbeing of the people of Newbridge and surrounding communities.
- To create an inclusive organisation where everyone has opportunity of access to fulfil their potential regardless of academic ability, race, gender age or disability.
- Create a positive and pleasant environment for volunteers, management, employees through community participation and ownership.
