New Roots

Who we are

New Roots is a voluntary sector housing project that offers a high standard of accommodation with/or support to homeless or vulnerably housed young people in Bassetlaw and the surrounding areas. The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee. It was established as acompany in 1993 and registered as a charity in 1995 and since that time has developed a long and impressive track record for delivering high quality, niche services.

New Roots is governed by a Board of Directors/Trustees, who are responsible for ensuring sustainability and providing leadership, integrity and accountability. The Board includes representation from service users and there is also an emerging tenant’s scrutiny process and additional mechanisms, which enable service users to influence and shape the design, planning and management of New Roots’ services.

The Board delegates day-to-day management functions to a Chief Executive Office and core management team. In total, there are 34 members of staff.

Vision - No young person should be disadvantaged by heritage, housing status or family background

Mission - To offer specialist support and accommodation to homeless young people with care experience or those atrisk of entering the care system

Our Team

New Roots has a team of fun, passionate and creative people from a variety of backgrounds and lived experience e.g. students, ex-military, Social Workers, Youth Workers, care and support workers as well as business support staff. Our volunteer service broadens the diversity of the team and the range of skills, knowledge and experience we can draw upon.

Being able to work together, having a positive and problem-solving approach and a willing to ‘go the extra’ mile are essential elements of our team – providing quality, innovative and responsive services that make a real difference, are what keeps us moving and developing together. This means creating an environment where we are constantly learning, challenging each other and what we do.

What we expect from all staff

No matter what their role, New Roots expects all staff to be able to: 

• Develop an in-depth understanding of the issues faced by children and young people affected by trauma, vulnerability and homelessness
• Work in a challenging and fast paced environment
