About us
Who we are
The National Housing Federation is the voice of affordable housing in England. We believe that everyone should have the home they need at a price they can afford.
That’s why we represent the work of housing associations and campaign for better housing. Our members provide two and a half million homes for more than five million people. And each year they invest in a diverse range of neighbourhood projects that help create strong, vibrant communities.
Mission
The Federation's mission is to support and promote the work of housing associations and campaign for better housing and neighbourhoods.
Values
We put our members at the heart of everything we do and we work together as one team to deliver our mission.
Our aim
By 2019, our members will be independent, private businesses that exist for social good, taking charge of their own destiny and providing the homes the country needs.
Our strategic themes
We will focus on three themes, with the sector's 2033 vision, an Ambition to Deliver at the heart of our work:
- being the leading voice
- strengthening our sector
- customer focused, relevant Federation
Our culture and values
We deliver positive change for our members by understanding and anticipating the critical issues affecting their businesses and the sector. We use our knowledge and leadership to:
Shape national policy and create an environment where housing associations can deliver their social purpose. We do this by:
- Representing the views of our sector to the government and key decision makers.
- Understanding and engaging in the wider policy agenda.
- Building an understanding of – and support for – housing associations.
Enable collaboration and share insight across the social housing sector. We do this by:
- Defining and promoting the common values and vision of the sector.
- Supporting our members to collaborate and take collective action.
- Developing and sharing expert insight and analysis.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and for us it’s much more than words. This is reinforced through our EDI strategy and policy which goes to the heart of who we are as an organisation and what we stand for as a sector.
We have a very active EDI staff group alongside six EDI and Wellbeing Champions, representing each of our directorates. We have come a long way by creating a truly inclusive organisation but we recognise there is still more for us to do.
