Who we are

What is Museums Northumberland?

Museums Northumberland is the public name for Woodhorn Charitable Trust, an independent charity providing Northumberland’s museums service.

What do we do?

Our vision is to ‘Share Northumberland’s stories to connect, enrich and inspire’ 

How do we do this?

We use the funds we raise to share and preserve Northumberland’s collections, stories and sites. We work with our communities and hundreds of partners to deliver great exhibitions and experiences and support learning and cultural engagement across our county.

We run four museums

We are responsible for four museums across Northumberland:

• Woodhorn Museum located in Ashington
• Berwick-upon-Tweed Museum and Art Gallery found within the Berwick Barracks
• Hexham Old Gaol, located in Hexham town centre
• Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum, located in Morpeth

And two further historic sites:

• Hexham Moot Hall, in Hexham town centre 
• House of Correction, in Hexham town centre

How are we governed?

The Charity is governed by a Board of Trustees and the Trust’s Chief Executive is Rowan Brown.
