About us
Who we are
Motivation is an international non-government organisation (INGO), with headquarters in the UK. Our mission is to enable greater independence and opportunity for disabled people in developing countries through the design and provision of wheelchairs, services and training. Specifically this means transforming the lives of disabled people living in developing countries by:
- Designing and manufacturing our own unique range of wheelchairs, the right wheelchair, fitted to meet an individual’s needs, and robust enough to withstand the environment they live in
- Providing training and practical support to ensure that the individuals with whom we work develop the confidence and skills to use their wheelchair as well as gain the knowledge to stay healthy and understand their rights; and
- Working with the wider community to tackle stigma and promote inclusion. In this way Motivation is helping children go to school and adults to enter the workforce, empowering disabled people to fulfil their potential.
Motivation’s head office is based in the UK and we have offices and national staff that run programmes in East Africa and South Asia (currently active in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and India). We also operate more widely around the world, through consultancies and training working with governments, other international nongovernment organisations (NGOs) and humanitarian organisations, who benefit from our mobility expertise and the sale of our wheelchairs and products. In the last twelve months Motivation’s wheelchairs, training and services have had a direct impact on the lives of 6,978 people. In addition, 8,816 people received a wheelchair or assistive technology product.
