About My Life Films
My Life Films is a charity that uses filmmaking to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. Our mission is to help every person affected by dementia in the UK and our vision is a world where the lives of people with dementia are not defined by their illness.
Many people, both patients and their loved ones, are often completely devastated by a dementia diagnosis, but we are here to give them hope. We fill a gap in the health and social care sectors for a non-pharmacological service which supports People Living with Dementia (PLD) to live and age well, with benefits for caregivers too.
Since 2015, we have run our pioneering Biographical Filmmaking Service where we create life story films for individual PLD using their photos, favourite music and filmed interviews, providing PLD with a lasting form of reminiscence therapy. We’ve made films for over 300 PLD, helping more than 3,000 people affected, and 90% of direct beneficiaries have reported improved mental health and wellbeing as a result. The impact was proven in the REBIND clinical study by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology in 2019 (Francis et. al).
In January 2021 we launched My Life TV (MLTV), the world’s first video-on-demand streaming service designed specifically for PLD, showing TV shows that are suitable for their cognitive needs. It’s like Netflix for PLD but not for profit.
