About us
Who we are
The Misión México Foundation (MMF) aims to break cycles of poverty, abuse and inequality; providing opportunities for every child and youth that we care for to succeed. Through long-term solutions like education, practical and emotional care and community development, we provide tools and opportunities for children and youth to advance in every aspect of their lives.
For the past 20+ years, we have been welcoming volunteers year-round from around the world to help our team lead activities and games and generally help maintain house rules, routines, and actively supervise the children and youth in our care.
This year, we are launching our new Enrichment Program, which will take place during school holidays (Christmas, Easter, and Summer) during which time Specialist Volunteers can come for shorter stays to share their skills and talents with our kids!
We are looking for volunteers to share with and teach our kids courses and workshops in the following areas: cooking/baking, gardening, yoga, dance, sports, surfing, art, arts & crafts, etc.
It would be great if you have teaching, coaching, or other experience with youth, leading and facilitating activities and games with an emphasis on SEL and/or working with kids with trauma. These are not requirements, just background we're especially recruiting.
Please be conversational in English, basic Spanish would be great! Again, not a requirement for the volunteer role.
The application process for Specialist Volunteers will include a request for a proposal of your course/workshop so we can schedule your time accordingly.
Typical day
Volunteers will work five days every week, with two full days off. Shifts are typically six to seven hours, never more than eight. Shifts usually begin at lunch, which we all eat together in the Comedor at the house with the kids (the menu varies daily and we are able to accommodate some diet restrictions, but not all, as the meals are prepared by our cook for all).
Please prepare a proposal to submit with your application that outlines your workshop or course you will facilitate at the house during your stay.
Indicate your skill or talent you will lead and share with the kids and then provide the following information:
Duration of each class/session
Number of kids that can participate in each session
Age groups of each session
Hours per day you can lead your activities/workshop
Materials you will bring
Materials you will need to buy/source locally
Number of other adults you may need each session (to help with supervision or a physical task)
Language in which you will conduct your class/session
Specific dates or time frames you are unavailable to teach or facilitate your course
Free-time activities
We have a shared Tapachula Guide that is constantly being updated to include more and more activities for volunteers and staff to enjoy in this city and in this region (including nearby Guatemala).
This also includes stays and/or surf lessons at our beachfront hotel and surf school, Misión Surf.
We have even secured some discounts at local hotels and fincas (coffee farms and resorts along the Ruta Cafe/Coffee Route) in the area.
