About us
Who we are
‘Men Get Eating Disorders Too’ is a charitable organisation (registered charity 1139351) that seeks to raise awareness of eating disorders in men and to support sufferers, carers and their families.
Typically eating disorders are perceived to be conditions that affect only women – this is far from the case. Between 10 and 25 per cent of those people experiencing eating disorders are male. We know that the majority of men who have eating disorders struggle to get access to appropriate support and treatment. Therefore it is difficult to know how many men are actually affected by the conditions.
Eating disorders are a much under-represented issue. Our work aims to get men and eating disorders on the agenda by campaigning and raising awareness.
We also provide information to men and others around them through this website and other resources. This website also provides a platform for which men can get their voices heard and a space for which they can offer and receive peer support through the forum and live chat services.
Our mission is:
‘Supporting men with eating disorders, carers and their families to get their voices heard’.
Our aims are:
- To provide information and advice about eating disorders that is specific to men’s needs.
- To enable men with eating disorders, carers and their families to connect with others in similar situations to ease the isolation and provide pathways to support.
- To increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of eating disorders in men amongst the wider community.
