Maternity Worldwide

Who we are

Maternity Worldwide is a charity which works in low-income countries to help women and girls access the high quality maternal health care they need to be able to give birth safely.

We use an integrated approach to address each of the issues women face when trying to access safe childbirth.  This is based on the Three Delays Model* which identifies three groups of factors which may stop women and girls accessing the maternal health care they need:

• Delay in decision to seek care
• Delay in reaching care
• Delay in receiving adequate health care

We work with local partners and healthcare providers to address each of the barriers women face when trying to access safe childbirth using a sustainable integrated approach which will make a lasting difference;

• We train midwives, healthcare workers and doctors so they are able to provide safe births for mothers now and for the future
• We improve access to health centre and hospitals with rural health centres and motorbike ambulances
• We run income generation schemes enabling women to earn their own money
• We empower women to become the decision makers about their own reproductive health and ultimately to become leaders in their communities
• We provide maternal health sessions for communities so they are able to look for risks associated with pregnancy and seek medical help early

At Maternity Worldwide we have a vision of a world where all women, wherever they live, can give birth safely and without fear.
