Who we are

Maternity Action is the UK’s maternity rights charity dedicated to promoting, protecting and enhancing the rights of all pregnant women, new mothers and their families to employment, social security and health care.

Established in 2008, Maternity Action delivers online information and telephone advice; training and consultancy; and policy, campaigning and research.

Our information and advice services cover employment rights, maternity benefits, breastfeeding rights and access to NHS maternity care for women from abroad.  Each year, we advise over 3,500 women and their partners and parents view our information sheets over a million times.

Our mission is to empower pregnant women, new mothers and their partners with information, advice and casework to assert their rights; to build the capacity of frontline charities, health professionals, unions and employers to better support pregnant women, new mothers and their families; to undertake research and policy analysis; and to influence law and policy with the aim of reducing poverty, improving health, promoting gender equality and advancing the human rights of pregnant women and new mothers.
