Light Foundations

Who we are

Light Foundations is an award winning organisation with a mission to support young and unemployed people by helping them improve their employability and mental illness through skills training, providing business opportunities, and offering one-on-one mentoring support. We aim to help as many individuals gain the required skills, experiences and accredited qualifications to better access the labour market to secure a job in their preferred field or even begin their journey in setting up a new business. By doing so, we are empowering individuals to realise their full potential and have a brighter future.

We run a variety of different programmes aimed at achieving this mission. We currently run two forms of ESOL English classes. Our general English classes are open to the public and are based at various venues for individuals that have recently come to this country and have either a basic or intermediate level of English-speaking skills, that they would like to improve to maximise their communication skills and the chance of finding long term employment so that they make their integration into this country easier. We also hold ESOL English classes specific to the Hong Kong community specialising in Cantonese-English conversational speaking based in the Hackney Chinese Community Centre and online.

We run a Youth Project that focuses on amplifying young voices, listening to their future goals and supporting them in walking down that path towards securing employment. Additionally, we have a really important Health Programme focused on improving the general wellbeing of members of our community. The programme has been fused with our ESOL classes with sessions focusing on improving mental wellness by creating a space for opening up about personal trauma with the support of a licenced therapist/mentor.
