About us

Who we are

We exist to be an active and progressive agent in city life, listening and responding to the needs of the city, for the benefit of all.

Leeds Church Institute supports Christians, churches and faith organisations by organising formal talks, seminars, training and other educational activities. Our focus is on being an ecumenical faith presence in civic life, working with partners on justice issues for the benefit of all in the city.

We resource churches in their mission and ministry through consultancy, research, the development of collaborative projects.

We employ a team of ‘Faith Leads’ who support the representation of churches and other faith communities in public life.

Our work focuses on three distinct themes:

  • Faith and Creativity
  • Faith at the Margins
  • Faith and Racial Justice

We provide academic bursaries, publish a quarterly magazine and host the annual Hook Lecture to increase theological literacy and learning on social justice across the city.

Our culture and values

Leeds Church Institute has a fine history of engagement with the city and its needs and supports and enables theological reflection particularly around issues of social justice.

LCI is an ecumenical charity working in creative ways in education. It leads and responds to the needs of the city and the church and seeks to make a real difference.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Leeds Church Institute affirms that all people are created equal, and no society will flourish unless all are endowed with the opportunities and freedoms of equality. In the light of this, Leeds Church Institute strongly values the diversity of people who work for and come into contact with us, and in the city more widely.

LCI has an Equality & Diversity Policy which it applies to all aspects of the organisation’s work and practice. It is the responsibility of every individual connected to, and/or acting on behalf of, Leeds Church Institute to adhere to the policy.

The LCI Board of Trustees (the LCI Council) promote and monitor the organisation’s commitment to equality and diversity, while the LCI Director is responsible for the overall management and direction of equality and diversity commitments.
