About us
Who we are
Learn to Love to Read is a Wandsworth-based literacy charity. We are a small friendly team, with all staff working from home, but we have always operated with a professionalism and ambition that belies our size. We have an excellent reputation in our local London borough and exciting plans for growth and development over the next three years. We are a flexible organisation, with a mutually supportive staff team, in which new ideas are welcomed and valued.
Literacy is proven to have enormous impact on children’s life opportunities and outcomes. And it has become more and more evident that Covid will have an unequal impact. A report released in March 2021 indicated more than 200,000 pupils would move from primary school to secondary school that autumn without being able to read properly. The findings show the impact of lockdown on learning, with the number of children struggling with literacy rising significantly.
Our Early Years work prepares children to start school ready to read. Our reading volunteers offer individual support to children who are finding learning to read challenging. Our parent training equips and encourages parents to support their children's reading at home. We work on-site at partner primary schools and also virtually via Zoom.
