About us
Who we are
The Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) are an International Religious Congregation of Catholic women who seek to proclaim with their lives, the joy and freedom of the Gospel in the spirit of Francis and Clare of Assisi. The sisters purchased Ladywell in 1956 and it provided a ‘home’ for sisters from around the world. Since the 1980’s, part of the buildings has been used as a Retreat Centre.
The essence of Ladywell is captured in its Mission Statement: “In Ladywell we seek to create a hospitable Franciscan place with a peaceful atmosphere, rooted in Gospel values and which nurtures life for everyone.”
There are several different ministries carried out at Ladywell: - a Care Home for the elderly and sick sisters and a resident community of sisters contributing to the hospitality offered. Offices of the FMDM Congregational Leadership Team (CLT) who are also the Trustees of the Charity and a Finance and Administration hub which supports the work of the CLT.
Throughout 2020 and most of 2021, the sisters have made significant changes to the physical structures and will be embarking on a new mission with the opening of a Franciscan Centre at Ladywell for both day and residential groups.
Nestled within a beautiful and peaceful setting, Ladywell, is also a vibrant and busy place of work, with around 90 employees. Each of which, are supporting the Sisters, in an environment that offers varied opportunities and personal growth.
